According to a new report, a new Ratchet & Clank game is in development and could potentially launch with Sony’s upcoming next gen system the PlayStation 5 later this year, if recent comments made by trusted gaming journalist Colin Moriarty are to be believed.

During the recent episode of his own PlayStation podcast, Sacred Symbols+: Episode XXVI: The Waiting Game, Moriarty shared insider knowledge of an alleged new Ratchet & Clank game, which he claims has been long in development over at Insomniac and seems very likely to be a PlayStation 5 launch title.

“We’re going to get a Ratchet and Clank in-between that [Spider-Man 2018 and its sequel) on PlayStation 5,” said Moriarty.

“I feel like that’s going to be a launch game, the Ratchet and Clank game that’s long been in development at Insomniac.”

This isn’t the first time we’ve heard rumours of a new Ratchet & Clank game. Back in April we reported on similar comments made by Moriarty, teasing we haven’t seen the last of Ratchet & Clank on PS4. It’s very possible that this new R&C game was originally planned for PS4 but had since been changed to focus on utilizing the capabilities of PS5 instead.

It’s worth mentioning that while its wise to take Moriarty’s comments with a grain of salt, a new R&C game isnt out of the realm of possibility. At Gamescom 2019, it was revealed that Sony had acquired Insomniac as part of their PlayStation Worldwide Studios, with SIE Worldwide Studios boss Shawn Layden stating that the Ratchet and Clank will be a vital series for them in the future.

Moriarty also has close connections with Insomniac developers during his time at IGN, with him publishing an in-depth piece about the story of the studio’s history back in 2012, making his insider knowledge far more credible.

As a huge Ratchet & Clank fan, with the series being my all-time favourite, the idea of a new Ratchet & Clank game being built for PlayStation 5 sounds extremely exciting and one that will no doubt be a system seller if it launches with the console at the end of this year.

Let’s just hope this new Ratchet & Clank title is a new and original story following from the events of the Future series and not just a remake of Ratchet & Clank 2: Going Commando, fingers crossed!
