A new Far Cry game is in development over at Ubisoft for current and next gen consoles, and will release during the next fiscal year, according to a tweet made by trusted Kotaku journalist Jason Schreier.

Earlier today during Ubisoft’s third quarter earnings report, the company revealed plans to release five AAA Games in their upcoming fiscal year between April 2020 and March 2021 - with three games being Watch Dogs: Legion, Rainbow Six: Quarantine and new IP Gods & Monsters (all of which have been delayed for next-gen consoles).

According to Jason Schreier, the two unannounced AAA games in Ubisoft’s release schedule are a long-rumoured Assassin’s Creed game (rumoured to be set during the Viking era), and a brand new Far Cry game.

While it’s not surprising we’d be getting a new Assassin’s Creed after months of rumours, this is the first we’ve heard of a new Far Cry game. Assassin’s Creed and Far Cry are two of Ubisoft’s biggest franchises, with Far Cry 5 being the best-selling Ubisoft game this generation, so a new entry in the franchise would certainly be a system seller for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X.

This next entry is almost certainly Far Cry 6 unlike 2019’s Far Cry: New Dawn, which was a spin-off continuation of the events of Far Cry 5’s ending. Each numbered Far Cry title focuses on completely new settings, plots and characters from the previous, so Far Cry 6 will most likely be the same.

Where would you want to see the Far Cry series go next with Far Cry 6? I’d love to see their take on Australia, especially with the amount of deadly animals and outback scenery which would be perfect for the series.

Stay tuned for future news, rumours and updates regarding the next Far Cry game in the future.
