Stellar Entertainment, the development team responsible for Burnout Paradise Remastered and last years’ Need for Speed Hot Pursuit Remastered, have revealed they are hiring for an ‘AAA next gen project’.

Announced over on the studio’s Twitter account, the team outlined that work has begun on a AAA next gen project and that they are recruiting ‘the games industries brightest and best to work on it’.

Currently Stellar Entertainment has nine job openings for the following roles: Lighting Artist, Technical Artist, VFX Artist, Associate Designer, Build & Tools Engineer, Senior Physics Engineer, Senior Graphics Engineer, Gameplay Programmer and Associate/Graduate Programmer.

What’s interesting is while none of the roles hint at what exactly this project may be, the Lighting Artist job opening mentions the studio is looking for someone to “play a lead role on a AAA level project, working on cutting edge graphics and visual effects systems to redefine industry benchmarks.”

The job description further mentions of multiple projects being made with Unreal Engine, stating “exciting, and varied, next-gen projects lined up with the aim of creating a truly AAA experience pushing the boundaries in UE4 & UE5.”

Back in 2018 not long after the release of Burnout Paradise Remastered, we reported on Stellar Entertainment staffing up for a new project, which presumably turned into last year’s Need for Speed Hot Pursuit Remastered.

Stellar have typically been a support studio assisting on projects, with close ties to EA/Criterion working on both Burnout and NFS remasters. What’s different this time around is Stellar seems to be working on their own game(s) and using Unreal Engine 5 - different to EA’s household Frostbite engine and Criterion’s old Chameleon engine.

At the time Stellar consisted of just nine employees as showcased on their website’s Team page, however that’s since been updated to showcase the three studio leads, so its unknown just how big Stellar Entertainment is today to tackle a AAA next gen game, or whether or not this project might be a second party racing game funded by EA.

Many have suspected, and hoped that we may received a Need for Speed Most Wanted (2012) Remaster at some point following the recent release of remasters, however with Stellar seemingly shifting focus to make their own game, it remains to be seen whether we will or not. The job listings mention ongoing projects, perhaps that could be one of them.
