PlayerUnknown's Battleground's monthly update for July has been detailed, after unfortunately being pushed back to August 3rd due to "complications with a client crash bug". The
monthly update adds first-person servers, an FOV slider for first-person view and a new rifle, with another monthly update possibly coming out at the end of August due to July's being pushed back.

PlayerUnknown himself, Brendan Greene, gave an update on a Steam Community update post regarding the state of character customization and much-requested new skins leading up to Gamescom.

We’re aware that many of you want new in-game skins to further customize your character. While we won’t be rolling out the full system until we move out of early access, we would like to provide more content as well as test the basic crate & key system we want to implement in the final version of the game.

Along with the new monthly update, three new crates will be released for PUBG. All three of these crates will include items inspired by the film 'Battle Royale', with two of the three crates - Wanderer Crate and Survivor Crate - being free for people to open. The third, named the Gamescom Invitational Crate, will have "the most diverse pool of themed clothing".

To unlock these crates, they will have to be purchased with your Battle Points (BP) much like the current crates in the game. However, the Gamescom Invitational Crate also requires a key to unlock them which can be purchased for $2.50USD, with the proceeds going into a selection of charities, funds to organize the Gamescom Invitational event and a prize pool for the winners

After Gamescom finishes on August 27th, the Invitational Crates will no longer be available but all three crate types can still be tradable via the Steam Community Market.

As someone who really enjoys PUBG, I'm glad to see them finally adding in new skins as the current customization options are very basic, and can't wait to see how different first-person only servers make the game play.
