EA have officially confirmed that the publisher plans to launch a new Need for Speed title in the upcoming fiscal year.

Announced via EA’s second quarter fiscal 2021 earnings call earlier today, EA revealed that the publisher plans to launch at least 6 new games on next-gen consoles between the period of April 1st, 2021 and March 31st, 2022 - including a new Need for Speed, Battlefield, and sport titles such as FIFA and Madden.

The next Need for Speed title is set to feature “astounding visual leaps” and will be developed by Criterion Games, who have launched “some of the most highly-rated games in franchise history”, in a statement from EA describing the next Need for Speed title.

You can find an excerpt of that quote from the EA Q2 2021 Fiscal earnings call below:

Need for Speed fans have known about this new title from Criterion for several months now, with franchise development moving back to Criterion back in February following the closure of Ghost Games, and EA Play in June giving us an early look at in-engine footage of the new title.

What’s reassuring from this news is that - despite various COVID lockdowns and developers working from home since the beginning of Criterion’s project, with job listings even suggesting various key roles aren’t even filled at the studio - the next game is on track for typical November 2021 launch.

With next-gen consoles launching next week and roughly over a month until 2021 begins, we’ll be sure to start getting new hints and details of Criterion’s upcoming Need for Speed title in the months ahead.

Be sure to stay tuned for all future Need for Speed 2021 news, rumours and official announcements.
