Turn 10 Confirms Next Forza Motorsport Game is in Development

The next entry in the Forza Motorsport series looks to be on the way, with Forza creative director Dan Greenawalt confirming that Turn 10 are in the early stages of their next Forza project.

During the recent Forza Monthly episode, Greenawalt revealed plans for what the studio has next for Forza Motorsport 7 and confirmed that the majority of Turn 10 are now in the concept stage for their next Forza project, which is presumably Forza Motorsport 8.

“There’s still updates to come: you heard about Forza Race Regulations, and we’re going to be going out with a private and then public beta and then rolling that out. You know, we’re not done with eSports, that’s an exciting part to us as well so we’re going to be doing updates on that in the future. And of course we’re going to be doing other updates to the game. But the weight of the team is shifting over to our next project. So we’re getting into that concept phase.”

What’s interesting is the team are taking a different approach to developing their next title, stating they “want to do it with our fans”. What that will mean is unclear, however it seems the developers at Turn 10 will be shaping their next Forza game around community feedback and letting the dedicated Forza community suggest what does and doesn’t make it into the final product.

In July last year, we reported that Forza Motorsport 8 was not in development and that Turn 10 were focusing their efforts on updating Forza 7 with new tracks and expansions. With Greenawalt mentioning the team have just begun the concept stage for their next project, it seems very unlikely the game will release in 2019.

With next generation consoles seemingly launching in 2020, Turn 10 are almost certainly saving their next Forza Motorsport title to be the flagship launch title on the next generation hardware. This wouldn’t be surprising as Forza Motorsport titles are synonymous with new Xbox hardware, as Forza Motorsport 5 launched alongside the original Xbox One in 2013, and Forza Motorsport 7 with the Xbox One X in 2017.

It is still possible we may see a Forza title release this year in it's absence, with news on the recently-leaked Forza Street still unannounced at this current time.
