Playground Games have announced that Toyota are making their highly-anticipated return back to the Forza franchise, starting next month with the Forza Horizon 4 Series 17 Update.

Revealed during their Series 17 showcase and Forza Monthly livestreams, Playground Games confirmed that the studio has signed an agreement with Toyota to feature their vehicles in Forza games “for the years to come.”

When the Series 17 update for Forza Horizon 4 launches in December 12th, you will be able to get your hands on the iconic 1998 Toyota Supra RZ from the Autoshop and drive this JDM legend across the United Kingdom - with more vehicles from Toyota, Lexus and Scion coming to Forza Horizon 4 in the future.

What this new partnership means for other racing games remains to be seen, as Toyota production vehicles have been absent from almost all racing games including Forza and Need for Speed since 2017. Gran Turismo Sport and Project CARS 2 however feature Toyota vehicles, with Gran Turismo Sport bolstering a huge lineup including the newly released Toyota GR Supra.

Back in August, Toyota signaled interest in returning to racing games in the future, after being called out by the Need for Speed community when a tweet from Toyota UK blew up deeming Need for Speed Heat an unworthy fit for their brand as it promotes “illegal” street racing.
