Spyro Reignited Trilogy Announced, Launching Late September for PS4 and Xbox One

After being what is one of the 2018's worst kept secrets, Activision have finally confirmed that Insomniac Games' Spyro The Dragon Trilogy on the original PlayStation are being remade from the ground-up for PS4 and Xbox One, as a way of celebrating the purple dragon's 20th anniversary this September.

Spyro Reignited Trilogy is being developed by the minds over at Toys for Bob, who have been responsible for the Skylanders series and are handling the Nintendo Switch port for Crash Bandicoot: N'Sane Trilogy, and will launch on September 21st 2018.

From a press release over on the PlayStation Blog, The Reignited Trilogy will modernize the original three titles - Spyro the DragonSpyro 2: Ripto’s Rage!, and Spyro: Year of the Dragon - similar to the  N'Sane Trilogy, by featuring remade environments, audio, models and lighting, while implementing analog-stick controls, an auto-save system, fast-travel options and more.

Spyro's original voice actor in the second and third games, Tom Kenny will be returning to reprise his role, however there are no mentions of any other original voice actors returning. In addition, Spyro Reignited Trilogy also re-imagines Stewart Copeland’s original soundtrack from the first three games.

Spyro Reignited Trilogy launches on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on September 21st 2018 for $39.99 USD. Currently, there are no indications of a PC or Nintendo Switch port in the works.

As a huge Spyro fan, I'm super excited to see one of my favourite childhood franchises be brought back to life in the same faithfulness as last year's Crash Bandicoot N'Sane Trilogy.
