With the closure of Ghost Games last month and Criterion regaining control of future Need for Speed titles, many have wondered what direction the series will take Post-Ghost Games.

However strangely enough, it seems Criterion might be interested in bringing back iconic Need for Speed characters for the next era of titles, if comments made by Razor’s actor Derek Hamilton are to be believed.

Shared via Hamilton’s Instagram page, the actor behind Most Wanted 2005’s antagonist Razor Callahan revealed that he has been contacted by EA about Need for Speed moving back to the UK and that he could potentially reprise his role as Razor in the next Need for Speed game.

“As far as Razor’s return, I do have some good news for all the people who have been asking, I had someone contact me last week from EA. Not sure if this news is out yet, if not…oops :) but they told me Need for Speed is moving to the UK from Gothenburg and Ghost Games, it will be retooled. They also said their is interest in bringing back some of the older characters from the franchise and Need For Speed Most Wanted.”

Whether or not this is confirmation of him working with Criterion to appear in the next Need for Speed game remains to be seen. He mentioned that he was contacted by EA, but it can be interpreted that it was just to inform him of Ghost’s closure, or that Criterion are interested in working with him and other actors for their next title if there’s enough fan interest.

Fans have been wanting to see iconic characters from past Need for Speed titles make a return for a long time, with 2017’s Need for Speed Payback actually teasing us of the possibility with the famous Rockport bounty hunter Cross making a cameo during a story mission.

Payback also featured various references to Razor in addition to Aki Kimura, the Drift King from Need for Speed Prostreet, returning as the leader of the Noise Bomb Street League. Various Need for Speed icon cars also made a return, some as Abandoned Cars during the game’s live service, as well as Unlockable Reward cars in Need for Speed (2015) and Heat.
