At long last, the first Need for Speed Heat update of 2020 has been detailed, adding several new features and Quality of Life additions.

Revealed in a new Under The Hood community post, Need for Speed Heat’s January 2020 update will be launching next Tuesday, January 28th and will be adding features including Steering Wheel support, a Chat Wheel, an in-game store and a few new QoL changes.

Here’s the rundown of everything coming in Need for Speed Heat’s January Update:

Steering Wheel support has now been added, so for those of you hanging out for wheel support in Need for Speed Heat, your prayers have been answered. Here are the following wheels that are supported:

  • Thrustmaster T300RS (PS4, PC)

  • Thrustmaster TX (Xbox, PC)

  • Thrustmaster T150 (PS4, PC)

  • Thrustmaster TMX (Xbox, PC)

  • Logitech G29 (PS4, PC)

  • Logitech G920 (Xbox, PC)

  • Fanatec CSL Elite Racing Wheel (PS4, PC, XB1)

A new Chat Wheel feature has been added for communicating with other players in All-Drive sessions. The Chat Wheel works much like Payback’s emote wheel which was added in one of the games final post-launch updates in 2018, however replace emotes with text. This is a neat addition for communicating with random players and sounds like it will work a lot like Forza Horizon 4’s Quick Chat feature.

Keys to the Map has been added alongside the addition of an in-game store to make DLC purchases, presumably readying DLC car packs in future. Keys to the Map are essentially shortcut packs purchased with real money which when purchased will show all the locations for activities collectibles on the map such as Flamingos, Street Art and Billboards. Alternatively, you can check out our full collectibles locations guide here.

A few Quality of Life Changes have been added; with Gas stations now also cleaning scratches and dust when repairing, and button prompts for entering the garage/ starting events now needing to be held instead of tapped to accommodate for manual shifting.

While it’s a pretty lackluster update, especially given Need for Speed Heat has been out for almost 3 months, it’s worth noting that the Under The Hood post teases something more “exciting” in the works for the game’s next update which will add new cars.

What are your thoughts on the Need for Speed Heat January Update? Are you excited for all the new additions, or are you disappointed and going to wait until something more substantial comes in the next update? Share your thoughts below.
