After being developed by Swedish studio Ghost Games for the past six years, future Need for Speed will now be developed by Criterion Games instead, with Ghost Games returning to previous studio name EA Gothenburg.

Revealed by GamesIndustry.biz, Ghost Games will become a support studio to help development across EA’s portfolio. Many of the developers on the creative team at Ghost Games will be transferred to positions at Criterion and other place within EA’s development studios.

Sadly, 30 positions at Ghost remain at risk. EA told GamesInsdustry.biz “Outside of the engineers and those that we plan to transfer to other positions, there would be 30 additional staff in Gothenburg, and we would hope to place as many of them as possible into other roles in the company.”

Over the last few months, many have speculated issues have developed at the studio - with the very late reveal and low promotion of last year’s Need for Speed Heat, the departure of many studio heads including Marcus Nillson, and the lackluster support Heat has received since its release in early November.

We wish nothing but the best for those involved with the transition, and hope the talented developers at Ghost can find jobs at Criterion and EA studios.
